Why do you use coconut oil?Updated 7 months ago
We use less than 2-3% virgin coconut oil in all our recipes to ensure nutritional balance.
Cats are desert animals. Contrary to common belief, fish isn't actually the best protein or fat source for cats.
We use coconut oil because it is the most appropriate fat source for cats.
Coconut oil is the only fat source that is naturally anti-microbial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-bacterial. Coconut oil naturally helps with allergies, it can reduce arthritis, itchiness and it also prevents hairballs and promotes a healthy, shiny skin & coat. Coconut oil benefits the immune system as well, reducing inflammation in the pets body & controlling excess yeast growth which can cause digestive upset or other concerns.
There is an internet myth going around that coconut oil is not appropriate for cats. This is not true. Coconut oil is generally recognized as safe by AAFCO and the FDA for dogs & cats. We only use high quality virgin coconut oil from Thailand too so it does not go through chemical processing; this has been found to be most beneficial for cats & dogs. We also use an appropriate amount to ensure if provides balance in the pets diet. As with most things, too much of a good thing can sometimes be harmful so we are very careful to ensure balance among all our ingredients.
Lastly, coconut oil provides a source medium-chain fatty acids as well which many pets do not get enough of.
Hopefully this helps explain why we use coconut oil.
