My product was dentedUpdated 7 months ago
As per guidance by the Canned Food Alliance small dents do not affect the contents of the can if the can does not leak. If the can is leaking, however the food should not be used.
The Food Safety Inspection Service of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) provides this further guidance:
If a can containing food has a small dent, but is otherwise in good shape, the food should be safe to eat. Discard deeply dented cans. A deep dent is one that you can lay your finger into. Deep dents often have sharp points. A sharp dent on either the top or side seam can damage the seam and allow bacteria to enter the can. Discard any can with a deep dent on any seam.
Unfortunately, eCommerce packages are handled an average of 27 times by FedEx, so it is extremely difficult to limit dents. This is why we typically only sell in full cases and only offer the variety pack as a sample program. A full case ships better and we have custom made cardboard toppers for our full cases to protect the order. If you are looking to purchase single cans, we recommend visiting our store locator at identitypet.com/find. If you cannot find a store near you, we can be requested at any local neighborhood pet supply store. Small brands like us often rely on consumer requests at retail before the retailer begins to carry us. We are readily available to your local neighborhood pet stores through well-known pet food distributors in their area.
