Are your diets raw?Updated 7 months ago
Our foods are not raw per se, however they are closely aligned with several added benefits compared to raw.
Wet pet foods are lightly pasteurized to limit pathogen exposure compared to raw. Canning is the second oldest food preservation method (air-drying) being the first. Additionally, wet pet foods are able to get the highest meat inclusions of any format diet on the market. Our diets are 95% meat diets - raw diets don't even compare as they often use a lot of bone (which adds mineral content that can cause issues) and they also add a lot of fruits and vegetables to control costs. Raw pet foods also typically use a lot of organ meat and/or lower quality cuts of meat compared to our diets that use primarily breast, loin and filet cuts of meat.
We are quickly becoming recognized as the highest quality canned/wet pet foods currently available, and we are the first wet pet food to use only human quality breast, loin & filet cut meats. We DO NOT use trim cuts or whole frames (carcass or bone) like most pet food companies. Our diets are simple in formulation with just 6 simple ingredients + added vitamins & minerals. Most all of our diets are considered Limited Ingredient, so they are great for elimination diets for sensitive pets.
Additionally, all our ingredients are regionally sourced within 500 miles of where the product is made in Montreal Quebec, Canada (exceptions include our lamb from New Zealand & Rabbit from Europe). Most importantly, we are the first pet food company to use FRESH NEVER FROZEN ingredients. Research suggests that pets benefit greatly from the inclusion of fresh meats in their diet & lightly cooking the meat, poultry, or fish. We are similar to raw, home-cooked, or lightly-cooked diets but we offer the convenience of a can, a more economical price point & higher quality ingredients.
All of our ingredients are also hormone & antibiotic-free, our products are GMO-Free and both our cans and lids are BPA-Free. We also include Coconut Oil in all our diets to help reduce yeast as coconut oil is anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. It is also a great source of medium-chain fatty acids.
We also were the first pet food company to intentionally formulate our diets without legumes (ie. peas, chickpeas, garbanzo beans, lentils, etc.), potatoes, grains & gluten. The primary protein source in our diets is actual animal protein, not cheap vegetable protein or grains like most commercial pet foods (they use these ingredients to cheapen their diets but still make them appear high in meat).
Since we only use high-quality breast, loin & filet cuts of meat, poultry & fish (and not bone or carcass) our diets are also low in calcium, phosphorous, magnesium & ash compared to most high meat pet foods. It's important to find a diet that is not only low in trace minerals for kidney & urinary support, but the protein source is also imperative. You want to ensure the protein source is primarily from quality animal based protein & not vegetable proteins like most pet foods today. We match both qualities. Attached you will find specific figures for each diet. Since we have low mineral content and our primary protein comes from 99.8% animal protein, and our diets have no substantial carb content, we are a great diet for pets with sensitive stomachs as well as kidney disease, IBD, urinary tract issues & diabetes*. Since we have no legumes & are 95% meat, poultry or fish, you also do not have to be concerned with DCM (Dilated Cardiomyopathy) in your pet as we have a significant source of taurine.
